چکیده

Summarv. Ethanolamine is readily metabolized by oat, pea, wheat, apple and carrot tissue preparations. Ethanolamine-1,2 14C was incorporated into the lipid fraction, and 14C activity was distributed in the organic acid, sugar, acid volatile, carbon dioxide and insoluble residule fractions. The distribution varied with the particular tissue. Incorporation into the lipid fraction occurred in tissuie homogenates in the absence of ATP by a Ca++ activated system similar to that reported for animal preparations. The initial step in ethanolamine oxidation involves an amine oxidase. Glycolaldehyde and glyoxylic acid are metabolic intermediates, the former in the conversion of ethanolamine to carbon dioxide. 'No evidence was obtained for the operationl of an ethanolamine transaminase or for the involvement of phosphorylatedI intermedliates in the convxersion of ethanolamine to carboildioxide.

Fatty Acid Amides of Ethanolamine in Mammalian Tissues.

While investigating the metabolism of ethanolamine by rat liver microsomes, we observed an incorporation of this amine into microsomal lipid that was dependent on the presence of a fatty acid as cosubstrate (1). It was shown that the product of the enzymatic reaction was the fatty acid amide of ethanolamine and that the reaction was synthetic, since little hydrolysis of added fatty acid amide c...

Ethanolamine Signaling Promotes Salmonella Niche Recognition and Adaptation during Infection

Chemical and nutrient signaling are fundamental for all cellular processes, including interactions between the mammalian host and the microbiota, which have a significant impact on health and disease. Ethanolamine is an essential component of cell membranes and has profound signaling activity within mammalian cells by modulating inflammatory responses and intestinal physiology. Here, we describ...

Synthesis of phosphatidylethanolamine and ethanolamine plasmalogen by the CDP-ethanolamine and decarboxylase pathways in rat heart, kidney and liver.

Studies with mammalian cell lines have led to suggestions that mammalian tissues may derive all of their phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) from the decarboxylation of phosphatidylserine (PS), and also that the physiological significance of the CDP-ethanolamine pathway was the synthesis of ethanolamine plasmalogen. We have therefore investigated the biosynthesis of PE and ethanolamine plasmalogen vi...

Choline Synthesis in Spinach in Relation to Salt Stress.

Choline metabolism was examined in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) plants growing under nonsaline and saline conditions. In spinach, choline is required for phosphatidylcholine synthesis and as a precursor for the compatible osmolyte glycine betaine (betaine). When control (nonsalinized) leaf discs were incubated for up to 2 h with [1,2-14C]ethanolamine, label appeared in the N-methylated deriva...
